Well, I just realized that I read Luke 1 and that today's reading is actually Luke 2. Oh well, I'll post about Luke 1!
First, I'm so proud of each of you for continuing to read your daily Bible reading and for beginning this great discipline in your spiritual life. If you think about anyone you know who you would consider to be a strong Christian and who knows a lot about the Bible and seems to have a really close relationship with the Lord, know that they didn't get there overnight or by not doing anything. It takes time to develop a relationship with others, and the same is true with our relationship with God. To get them most out of any relationship, you must invest time into it. Continue to invest in your spiritual life. It will carry you through everything you deal with in life.
On to Luke 1! I told you all last night that the most important thing about having your daily reading is that you are getting something out of it. As I started reading Luke 1, I stopped at verses 3-4 which said:
"I too decided to write an orderly account for you, most excellent Theophilus, so that you may know the certainty of the things you have been taught. "
Luke wanted Theophilus to know and be certain about the things he had been taught--to believe them for himself. That is my desire for each of you. You have probably each spent a lot of time at church and in Sunday school and other classes. You have learned much and heard much, but do you know with certainty the things you have been taught? Do you believe the scriptures and are you allowing them to guide your life?
Hebrews 4:12 says the word of God is alive and active. That's what makes the Bible different than any other book. It changes our lives! Know it with certainty!
Have a great week!
