March 8-10 - Luke 3-5

on Thursday, March 10, 2011

Sorry--I get to the end of the day and realize that although I read the reading for the day, I forgot to put the post up.  I know you all aren't waiting for my commentary, but I just thought my email might remind you to read. I know it's a discipline that you have to get into the habit of doing.

Here are some of the thoughts on this week's reading:

Luke 3 - Herod imprisoned John the Baptist because he was tired of hearing the message he had to give.  My thought was, "You can imprison the messenger, but you can't imprison the message."  God will get his message out, you can count on it!

Luke 4 - It's a scary thing to realize that Satan quoted scripture to Jesus.  Satan knows scripture??  Yes, and he will try to use it against you if you let him.  This is a reminder to us as Christians that WE need to know the Word of God to be able to use it as our defense against Satan's schemes, just as Jesus did.

Luke 5 - Another favorite story about the fishermen.  The fishermen did everything they knew to do to catch fish.  They were professionals and knew all the tactics to be successful.  Jesus comes along and gives them instructions that seem ridiculous.  When they obeyed, they were successful.

The lesson for us in this is that we can do everything we know to do to accomplish good things.  God can perform a miracle in our lives to accomplish the same result--but who gets the glory?  God does!  What is it that you are working so hard to accomplish?  When you are willing to let go of it and let God work, you will be blessed, and God will get the glory.

Trusting with you,
Dianne
